Table tennis recreation for people with disabilities

In the 2025/2026 season, we are continuing with our NT-OTPP programme (a programme of table tennis for adult people with disabilities).

Training for people with disabilities takes place twice a week (on Mondays and on Thursdays from 8 pm to 9.30 pm). The training takes place individually, accompanied by a table tennis coach.

The training is individually tailored according to the form and degree of disability and according to the level of table tennis knowledge, as well as to the goals that each person with disabilities wishes to achieve through this exercise. Some wish to continue with their regular table tennis practice and encourage their sociability and physical activity, maintain their health, and improve the quality of their table tennis practice in order to increase the level of their satisfaction. For others, this training represents a gradual return to playing table tennis as a form of a safe physical activity in order to strengthen their balance, coordination, and fitness, improve their self-confidence, and foster their social inclusion.

The course of the exercise:

  • The exercise starts with a warm-up that is adjusted according to the limitations of each individuals, in order to prevent any irregular movements that can lead to injuries.
  • This is followed by training on the table, which is adjusted according to the level of table tennis currently achieved by each of the persons with disabilities: improving the technique of individual strokes, performing more complicated stroke techniques, serve, movement and footwork quality, approach and strategy when playing for points, etc.
  • Playing in order to relax (playing free sets with trainers and other players).
  • The training ends with a short conversation about the quality of the training, the progress and shortcomings, further programme and goals, etc.
